Amazing Race in the Parks This program will have you racing your way through the park. You will discover roadblocks and detours that will put your team dynamics to the test. The challenges will be fun and will leave you inspired to be in the outdoors. Two locations and dates to choose from: Englishman River Reg Park on Saturday September 7 and/or Rathtrevor Provincial Park on Sunday, October 6. Families, teams and individuals welcome. What’SUP at Spider Lake Capture the end of summer on a Stand-Up Paddle Board at Spider Lake. Equipment, basic SUP skills, water safety and fun will be delivered by our Paddle Canada Certified Instructors. Meet at Spider Lake Provincial Park on Sunday, September 8, 10:00am to 12:00pm. The Terry Fox Run Join us at Rathtrevor Beach Provincial Park to walk, ride or run 3.3km, 5km or 10km on Sunday, September 15, to support the Terry Fox Run for cancer research. Registration begins at 9:00 am and run starts at 10:00 am. Register and pledge online at www.terryfox.org. No entry fee and no minimum pledge. Sturling Try it Event 55yrs+ The sport of Sturling, stick curling, is a new ice sport. Get in on the excitement and come to this Try It Event. Instructors will teach the basic rules, how to deliver the curling stone and how to sweep. After a 45 min. lesson, participants will participate in small games. Following the on ice activity, refreshments will be provided. This event is provided in partnership with the Zone 2 Area 2 BC Senior Games and BCRPA. Disco Light Skate for all ages Catch dance fever under the disco lights at Oceanside Place Arena. The flashing lights and pumping music will take you back in time on Saturdays September 28 and October 26 from 7:30 to 9:00 pm. Regular admission. Parksville Lion’s and Save-On-Foods Free Family Skate This popular session is back starting Sunday September 29. Children must be accompanied by an adult, 19yrs+. Red Cross AED/CPR C Save a life when only seconds count. Get trained. This course is required for lifeguards and health care professionals. Topics covered are CPR and blocked airways for adults, children and infants and an introduction to automated external defibrillators (AED). Active Aging Week Inspire wellness with free activities all week from October 1 to 7 in celebration of active aging. Local resources will be showcased and older adults are invited to try a fitness or yoga class, spinning or model railroad club or take a brain and nutrition workshop and much more. Mini Golf Event for Youth and Adults Youth 11 to 18 years and adults are invited to the annual mini golf event on Tuesday, October 1 from 4:00 to 6:00 pm. This event has been connecting youth and adults for over 10 years and is now part of the Active Aging Week celebration. Free registration is courtesy of Paradise Adventure Mini Golf. Parks 101 Tour – Moorecroft Regional Park An RLC Park Naturalist will show you the trails, unique aspects, and opportunities in some of the region’s best natural areas. This tour is great for both newcomers and those who are familiar but maybe haven’t fully explored our local RDN Parks and Trails. Geology Tour Join Dr. Steven Earle for an interpretive geology tour on the beaches of Nanoose Bay. Learn simple identification techniques and a bit about the island’s geological history. Transportation will be provided from your choice of either Oceanside Place Arena at 9:00 am or Nanoose Place at 9:30 am. Thursday, October 10 from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm. Cost is $29. Splish Splash Everyone Welcome Swim Splish splash everyone welcome swims at Ravensong Aquatic Centre are a water adventure you don’t want to miss. Halloween Howl Swim Ghosts and goblins will be seen at Ravensong Aquatic Centre this night with a few tricks and games for the children. The howl will finish off with an annual piñata bash.
